BEARD TRANSPLANT

BEARD TRANSPLANT | FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

BEARD HAIR TRANSPLANT

A beard hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles are harvested from the scalp and transplanted to the beard area to increase beard density or to fill in patches of missing hair. The procedure is similar to a scalp hair transplant, but the hair follicles are transplanted to a different area of the body.

There are two main types of beard hair transplant procedures: follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE). In FUT, a strip of skin is removed from the scalp and the hair follicles are harvested from it. In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted from the scalp using a small punch tool. The hair follicles are then transplanted to the beard area, where they will grow new beard hair.

The beard hair transplant procedure is usually done under local anesthesia and can take several hours to complete, depending on the number of follicles being transplanted. After the procedure, the patient will need to care for the transplanted beard hair and the donor site as instructed by the surgeon. There may be some swelling and discomfort after the procedure, but these symptoms should resolve within a few days. The transplanted beard hair will start to grow within a few months, and the final results of the beard hair transplant will be visible within a year.

For males, beard transplant has always been crucial. The beard has maintained its importance although sometimes people tend to overlook. For quite a while in having a beard has been considered very positively, and the growth of beards has remarked state of civilization due to the fact that notable individuals like American president Abraham Lincoln.

In the last ten years, as social media has grown in prominence, images of men with bushy beards have come to symbolize masculinity and a good-looking appearance. Some men feel insecure when they have a bare beard.

Beard transplant in Istanbul has become of the most common choices in the world. It is because Turkey has experts in this field, and they offer low-cost treatment for people suffering from beard loss.

Advantages of Beard Transplantation

There are several advantages you can benefit from having a beard transplant operation. Some of these are:

  • In order to create a pleasing appearance, beard transplant planning is done in accordance with the individual’s facial type.
  • The patient can shave and style his beard following the procedure.
  • The individual has the freedom to select the style of his beard.
  • Hair/beard transplantation also makes it feasible to shape sideburns.

Types of Beard Transplant

There are mainly two types of beard transplant procedures. These are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). However, FUE hair transplant has the widest application area.

A follicular unit is a condensed cluster of a number of hair follicles that may exit the skin from the same opening.

Both treatments involve transplanting hair follicles from the back of the head, often level with or slightly below the ear, onto the face.

FUE Beard Transplant

In this method, the donor area is harvested one at a time, collecting entire follicular units. With FUE, With FUE, hair graft can be easily harvested, and it is less painful. That’s why it is more popular.

FUT Beard Transplant

In this method, a surgeon removes the hair follicles from a thin strip of tissue that is cut from the back of the head.

It is more painful and needs more time to heal.

Three Stages of Beard Transplant Surgery

1. Graft Extraction
2. Incision Phase (opening of canals)
3. Implantation Phase

STEP 1: GRAFT EXTRACTION

Your surgeon will first shave the area of your head being harvested, regardless of whether you’ve opted to undergo a FUE or a FUT.

In FUT method, strip extraction is used. It entails removing a small section of tissue from the patient’s scalp. This skin strip is cut into separate grafts and inserted after being dissected under a microscope.

In the FUE method, a vast number of prestigious clinics all over the world extract grafts using a device referred to as a micro-motor tool. Due to its ability to extract grafts more quickly, this electrically powered tool has gained widespread adoption. Surgeons can remove up to 3500–4000 grafts with a micro-motor in a single day’s work. The rapid pace of extraction also reduces the amount of time grafts spend in the petri dish prior to implantation, further increasing survivability.

STAGE 2: INCISION STAGE (OPENING OF THE CANAL)

The incisions play a crucial role in achieving successful and natural beard transplant results. It takes a lot of control and accuracy to perform this part of the surgery. Each individual graft will be inserted into the recipient area through thousands of tiny incisions made by the surgeon using a very fine blade. It is essential that this procedure be carried out meticulously and competently because the depth and angle of each incision will dictate how the hair will grow.

Thickness, quality, spacing and the straightness of the hair determines the blade type, so each patient will have the perfect match of blades in their transplantation process.

STEP 3: THE IMPLANTATION PHASE

The surgeon will administer a local anesthetic to the area of your face where the implants will be after taking the hair follicles from your head. Once each follicle is implanted into your face skin, the surgeon will shape your new beard as you and the surgeon had previously decided.

How Long Does Beard Transplant Last?

The procedures for beard transplantations were designed to be permanent. The success rate for these operations are about 90% after the hair growth in the beard has begun. In this case, aftercare is essential to increase the hair grafts’ survivability.

Beard Transplant Price in Turkey

The beard transplant cost is the same as that of a hair transplant procedure; it all depends on how many hair follicles are transplanted in a single session, so an evaluation of how many follicles are viable as well as your own expectations must be considered before an estimate can be given. However, the beard transplant price in Turkey is nearly 50% cheaper than the Western Europe countries and the US.

Hair Transplant Post-Operation Recovery

After the beard implant operation, you will need a day to recover. Around each freshly implanted hair follicle, tiny crusts could develop; however, they should go off in a few days.

You should be able to resume regular shaving and beard trimming after about a week to 10 days.

But beware, after two or three weeks, your brand-new beard hairs can start to fall out. This is typical, and new hair should fill in to replace them.

What to Avoid After Hair Transplant?

Instructions for at-home care will be provided by your doctor. On your face and scalp, you might apply an antibiotic cream if it is recommended by your doctor.

Your face might not need to be washed for a few days, or you might just need to avoid scrubbing. You should try to leave your skin alone even though it will be sensitive and irritating in order to prevent infection. Avoid doing these activities at least the first several days:

  • Exposure to direct sunlight
  • Smoking
  • Swimming
  • Touching or scratching the implant areas
  • Sweating

Also, there are some potential beard transplant side effects, which include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tightness and numbing
  • Crustiness

What is the success rate of beard transplant?

Newly implanted grafts generally have the success rate of 90% of survivability.

Can I shave my beard after transplant?

We do not recommend shaving until 10 days after the procedure. Since the skin is sensitive in the recipient area, you might suffer from infection.

How long does a beard transplant grow?

In nearly 90 days, your hair follicles will be settled into the new place and complete their growth.

How many grafts do I need for beard transplant treatment?

You need approximately 2,000-5,000 hair grafts for your beard transplant treatment. However, it may vary according to the face shape, donor area and aesthetic concern of the patient.
